TRAUMA/PTSD

Trauma by definition, is “a deeply distressing or disturbing experience.” caused by a single major life event or in the case of complex trauma, a series of distressful experiences throughout one’s life. These include but are not limited to past sexual assault/abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, witnessing abuse, bullying, disasters, medical trauma, intimate partner violence and traumatic grief. Working together we can help you move beyond trauma where hope is restored and relationships healed.  For a successful recovery process to begin, we utilize Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to immediately reduce the negative images, symptoms and sensations of trauma.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

ART is an evidenced based form of psychotherapy that utilizes back and forth eye movements to help clients address problems such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as well as other mental health problems (e.g., anxiety, OCD, depression, anger management, substance abuse.) The primary benefit of this therapy is that it usually takes 2-7 sessions to help reduce the pain of past trauma. It is a science-based therapy which succeeds by moving information from the limbic system in the brain (fight or flight) to the prefrontal cortex where you have control over when and how you would like to think about a particular traumatic event. ART states “We say keep the knowledge, lose the pain, because you will keep the facts. You will only lose the negative images, sensations and symptoms.”  Clients have reported high success rates moving their trauma, creating a sense of calm, enabling a present feeling in the world and allowing forward movement through their journey.

RELATIONSHIPS

The cornerstone of my practice is a deep understanding that we are all rooted in relationships and connection. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I can work with you either individually or as a couple to enhance the attachments in your life. If one or both partners have dealt with addiction or trauma, I can help rebuild trust, communication and knowledge where you can begin to heal, support and turn towards one another. I also work with co-dependency, attachment wounds, self-esteem/self-worth, communication issues, sexual desire discrepancy and premarital work. I use various approaches including The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Let’s work together to move away from loneliness and isolation and towards enhanced safety and security in your relationships.
